Out-Of-Town Bands: Want To Play D.C.?

The Washington Area Music Association (WAMA) has launched the WAMA Band Exchange, an online forum designed to promote gig-swapping between D.C. artists/bands and out-of-town acts.

Bands/artists can post their information to the section for their respective city, along with contact information and links to their music.

Baltimore, Boston, New York, Philadelpia, and Richmond are the first five cities to be included in the forum. It may be expanded later, depending on how it goes with these first five. D.C. area bands/artists can browse the posts to the forum and contact those bands/artists who they fit well with. The two bands/artists can then discuss a gig-trade, where they would each open for one another in their respective hometowns.

The hope behind all of this is to get more bands working together to play out of town and build their fan bases. The more bands who post to it, the more likely the idea will work. It was just launched this week, so it may take some time to get things rolling. Please spread the word to other artists/bands who might be interested.

The Dave Daly Scholarship Fund was founded by family and friends in early 2003, with the goal of bringing light from darkness, and to keep Dave's memory alive in a positive way. They hope the income earned on these funds will permit them to help numerous children obtain their high school education via their partnership with Holy Redeemer, a community Dave was involved with for much of his life.

Happy Hour Wrap-Up

Thanks to everyone who made it for our first happy hour at IOTA. Those will take place the third Wednesday of every month, with the next one happening on Wednesday, November 17. We had a decent turnout for the first one and, if people spread the word, they can grow bigger every month. Thanks to everyone who told their friends, bandmates, spread the word through other message boards, etc. DCist was also kind enough to give the happy hour a plug.

Happy Hours Start Wednesday

The first of the monthly ArlingtonMusicScene.com Happy Hours at IOTA Club and Cafe takes place this Wednesday, October 20 from 6pm to 8pm. Come network with musicians and other members of the music community. Everyone is welcome. There will be no live music being played during the 6-8pm happy hour, giving people the chance to talk outside of the typical show scene. Those interested in playing or checking out live music can stick around for IOTA's weekly open mic. Sign-up for that begins around 8:30.

IOTA is located at 2832 Wilson Boulevard in the Clarendon neighborhood of Arlington, VA. Wilson Boulevard starts in Rosslyn, which is just across the river from Washington D.C. IOTA is just a couple miles up on Wilson, between Edgewood and Fillmore Streets. The club is also two and a half blocks East of the Clarendon Metro Station on the Orange Line. You can reach the club by phone at 703-522-8340.

Like the Arlington Music Scene Yahoo Group that started in early 2001 and now has close to 900 members, these monthly happy hours will likely start off small and grow through word-of-mouth. Please spread the word to your friends, bandmates and others who might be interested in attending.
